Zimbabwe Farmers' Union

All set for the 5th Zimbabwe Youth Agripreneurship Summit

03 Oct 2017

The 5th edition of the Zimbabwe Youth Agripreneurship Summit (ZYAS) running under the theme, “Inspired to lead and Transform” will be held from the 17th to the 19th of October 2017.

This year’s Summit will see over 300 young farmer leaders gather at celebration centre to be equipped with skills that will take them to the next level of success in their agri-business.

The Union is of the view that the future of agriculture lies in the hands of the youths and therefore there is urgent need to unleash their potential and energy in that direction.

ZYAS 2017 will make deliberate attempts to unpack some of the leadership topics without which it will be next to impossible for young people to dare to lead and take full ownership of the courses that take them to their destinies.

During the course of 2017, the Union organized Provincial “Agritalks” in which the Youths aired their views and interacted with experts in the field of agriculture and related industries.

During the “Agritalks”, the issues that emerged included, among others, recurring leadership failure (both at the individual, farm, business and association levels), limited access to markets and poor adoption of advanced technologies.

The leadership challenge, up till now remains the difference between change and maintaining the status quo.

The nationwide engagements through “Agritalks” inspired ZYAS2017’s theme.

ZYAS 2017 will therefore challenge young people in agriculture and agribusiness to dare to lead, instill the necessary confidence to tackle challenges in the agricultural sector

The Summit also provides young people with a platform to explore beneficial networks that will deliver/yield otherwise hidden opportunities

In order to facilitate market linkages, the Summit will start with a Market Fair in which young farmers and service providers will exhibit their products.

A one-day leadership coaching session, which is aimed at developing leadership skills among the delegates will follow.

Young farmers ought to be in touch with new technologies used in the agricultural sector and so relevant technology will be demonstrated during the summit.

Selected electronic young farmer profiles will be shared intermittently during ZYAS, this will be complimented by live testimonials.

The Zimbabwe Youth “Agripreneurship” Summit (ZYAS) organized by the Zimbabwe Farmers Union since 2013, is an annual event meant to motivate and inspire young people engaged in agriculture and its related value chains, to confidently occupy the agri-business space.

ZYAS also seeks to develop positive attitudes, leadership skills and other relevant capacities among young people involved or intending to take up space in the agricultural industry.
